Naked truth on Asbestos

Super Six asbestos

Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring minerals that were once widely used in building materials because they’re strong, fire-resistant and good for insulation. You’ll often find it in older homes and buildings, mixed into things like insulation, floor tiles, ceiling materials and cement products.

The problem starts when asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed. When that happens, tiny fibres can be released into the air. They’re so small you can’t see or smell them, but you can breathe them in. Once inside your lungs, those fibres can stick around for a long time and cause irritation and scarring.

Over time, exposure to asbestos can lead to serious health issues, including lung disease, breathing problems and certain cancers. These illnesses don’t usually show up right away—it can take many years after exposure for symptoms to appear. That’s why asbestos is taken so seriously today and why trained professionals are used to handle or remove it safely, rather than disturbing it yourself.

If asbestos is left alone and in good condition, it’s often not a problem. It’s when it’s cut, drilled, broken, or in the way of a future renovation that it becomes a real health risk.
